Sound Pollution

How does pollution affect me and my life?
I hate pollution it is my arch enemy. Especially sound pollution, if there were less cars there would not be as much sound from all those horns honking and the giant trucks honking there loud horns all over the place. It get a little annoying from time to time. It's like you can't even enjoy a nice peaceful day without all that honking. There is also a lot of construction going on.
How does my behavior contribute to pollution?
Well I do live right next to the school yet I still take the bus, so if all the kids that live in my building walked home as a group there would not be any reson for all the extra EMPTY buses. When I say empty I mean one or three kids on the bus but that is pretty rare.

CULTURAL ENCOUNTERS BLOG REFLECTION

1. What was one thing you learned from the simulations we played in class? How did this help you understand the essential questions better?
I learned how hard life was and how the towns people had to all communicate with each other. The biggest thing was how we had to agree on a lot of things and if one person or even two people disagreed then we would have to think of other things to solve the simulation.

2. Reading was a part of Cultural Encounters. When you read the books you were asked to think about your reading. What did you learn about your reading while doing this?
I found it very difficult to find information for my character. I did get some info about how my character lived. I never did find information on what my character's job really was.

3. Did the journal entries help you to better understand your character? Why or why not? Explain in detail.
It helped me but not a lot. I think that it was not much help because I think I already knew the best stuff for my character. I still might have needed a little more info but I think that I got most of the basics.

4. What was the best part of your presentation? How could it have been improved?
The best part in my groups presentation was that everyone had at least one or more lines to say. I think that we could of made the presentation a little bit longer and got more into the detail with our character. Other than that I think the presentation went well.

5. What was the biggest learning you gained from this unit? Explain with details.
The biggest learning was how we had to make our presentation like the olden days so that meant no new in the now days props.

The New World

The New World

I was nervous to board the ship because I didn't know what the New World would be like. Would we be invaded and not have the tools to fight back? Or maybe on the way a terrible storm comes through and the ship sinks and we all die! I don't know if I should stay with my family because they need to decide not to go or to go along with the others and face the consequences of the New World.

My hopes are that we will all be treated well when we are in need of help. My dreams are that my family comes along and stays safe. I fear of the Spanish attackers and the Indians that may invade our land. We are moving because the people of England would like to discover if there is any gold in the New World and if there is more land to grow crops and tobacco that sells for a lot of money. If I happen to run into any people that aren't the same as me then I'll try to communicate to make sure they know what they are doing. Like maybe they don't know if they should stay or go. The last thing I need to do is make sure I have everything I need like the tools I use for my job as a laborer and all the supplies to fight back if needed.

We have been on the boat for about a month now and my family did decide to come along. I am starting to feel a little home and sea sick. I have completely nothing to do. I can't make up my mind if I should have said no and stayed in England or if I did make the right decision to tag along. There isn't much to talk about with anyone else on board. My littlest son Marcus who is only seven years old is now very ill and there are no doctors that can find a cure. My other son Tom and his other sisters Sue, Betsy, and Lilly are all worried. My wife Beth is also sick but she is recovering from the illness.

Everyone has eaten half the food so we are running short and my family and I are starving. I am worrying if I will survive the whole trip because the boat is slowly moving and like I said we have only been on the boat for a month and things are already going wrong. I myself am starting to feel a bit sick, but not that much. I was hoping that we would soon find land, but a strong gale came through so it blew us off course. No one knew because all we saw the whole first month was water.

At last land is found! Everyone on board is running off the ship to get on the land. Tom is good as new and the family is so excited to settle in after the long boring ride to the New World. Now all we have to do is find a nice place to set up shop and get to work. We must be careful about the spot we pick because any Indian tribe on the island could strike at any moment when we are not aware. We are now finding crops to plant.

Winter is here and I was right, we were running short on food. I still think to myself if I made the right decision to come or stay I just can't decide. I am here and the boat is gone so I guess my decision is made I stay. Many of my friends family and I have died because of the weather. All the kids are now in school and I am off to work on sunrise as a Laborer and my wife works sewing blankets and cloths for families and children. Once again little Tom is sick and sadly is dying. We need help.

Summer has come and yes sadly Tom died and the family is very sad. Even after Tom's death I still had to work and I haven't got much done because of my depression. Other than that things are much, much, much better than in the winter. The same Indian that saw me from the bushes the other month had came back, but this time he brought the whole tribe along with him. We made peace with them because they were glad we didn't pick to settle in their territory. The chief Indian showed me and only me how to grow crops faster than we learned in England and he also showed everyone else how to fish and hunt. We asked if they would like to join us in some of our land, but they refused. I do recall them saying that they did not live that far away and that we could come over if we needed anything. This is starting to turn out a wonderful life other then that Tom dead, witch is still very sad.

Answers for A New Kind of Freedom

What convinced Johann to go to America? When Pastor Vogle told the family that each member of the party (# of people in the family)would each get 50 acres for free. So if each family member put their land together they would have 450 acres for free. It was more land then any land you could get in Germeny back then, and even if you did it would coast a lot of money.
How did Johann feel about the decision later? I would say that he enjoys it because he said that his children loved the farm land and he even loved it. In the end he calls it the Holy Expieriment was working, and by that I think he means that it was a beter idea to move to the the Knew World then he thought it would be.

Answers for Molly's Dream

What is Molly's Dream? Molly is an indentured servant that works at a lady named Mrs.Simmons shop in Boston. She cant wait to be eighteen, because when she is eighteen she will be free and not have to work for anyone. She gets very little time to see her little brother that also has to work for someone in Boston. When she grows up she wants to be a seamstress, a seamstress is someone who sews things like blankets and cloths for people. That is sort of what she does at Mrs.Simmons shop. Molly admires Mrs.Simmons and says that she is a kind and friendly preson, so she wants to be something like Mrs.Simmons. She has a dream picture and it is a picture of a house next to a lake with ducks and gesse in the lake. Molly's main dream is to live with her dad , elder sister, two yong brothers, and Wille the brother that also works in Boston, in a house just like her dream picture.

What will Molly have do do to make her dream come true? In order to make her drem come true she must complete her contract with Mrs.Simmons at the shop. Like I said Molly mus be eighteen leave Mrs.Simmons. Because she is a indentured servant she must obey what Mrs. Simmons says. If Molly trys to run away with her brother and they are cought they will be in big trouble. I doubt they will try because it sounds like the two servants are ok with there jobs.

Why Do People Move Part 2: From watching the brain pop movie I learned that back then there were slaves in Great Briton and if the slave did not do what they were told the would be forced to leave the country which meant the slave would not get paid. I also learned that people can not move where ever they want, only the people that have the money to pay for the ticket. And some people's jobs or company will pay for the family to move but the family has to pay the company to pay for the trip or move.

Essential questions

Why do we move: In some places in the world like England if you can not pay your taxes you are forced to leave. In other Places Like the United Sates people move because of there jobs. And some people move because the have the money to move when they want. Then there are the poor people who find a place to put there box or whatever they carry and when they want to mve tto another place they just go as they wish.

What a happens when people speak, act, and think differently: When I see a person that looks different I think where did that person come from. Well what I think happens is if you ever see a person that looks not a thing like you, you are wondering about that person and at the same time the other person is thinking in his or her mind about you at the same time. When the other person speaks a different language I want to learn that language so I could communicate with other people that speak that language. When I see someone acting different I think why do they act that way? There are just somany things to ask.
